Admissions
Reception
Admission applications usually need to be submitted by the December, prior to your child’s September start. Rednal Hill Infant School follows the Birmingham Local Authority Admissions policy.
Details of the application process for Reception places are sent to parents directly from the admissions department of Birmingham Directorate of Children, Young People and Families. These need to be completed online at https://www.birmingham.gov.uk/school_admissions.
If there are more applications for Reception than places, admissions will offer places on the following order of priority. Please see link below for the Birmingham Local Authority admission criteria.
Our school takes three classes of 30 children each year; 90 in total. If there are more applicants than places distance from school is the overriding factor in selection.
Prior to starting school your child will receive a visit at home from the teacher and teaching assistant who will be in their class. This helps your child to get to know the important adults they will be seeing each day whilst in the familiar surroundings of their own home. Your child will also be invited to a Stay and Play session at school before starting school. Parents will be invited to an Induction day to learn all about our school and have the opportunity to ask any questions.
Nursery
Names can be put down for the Nursery Class at the school office. This can be done at any time during the academic year. We have 8 full time places available. If there are more applications for Nursery than places, school will offer places on the following order of priority:
1. Looked after (children in care) or previously looked after children.
2. Siblings (brother or sister who will still be in attendance at Rednal Hill Infant or Junior school.
3. Age of child applying for Nursery place.
4. Distance (children who live nearest the school measured in a straight line).
If more than 8 children apply who are eligible for 30 hours childcare the admission criteria above will be used to allocate places. The academic year is from September 1st to August 31st.
Parents are very welcome to meet with the Head teacher to have a tour of the school. Appointments can be made via the school office. During the Spring Term all parents whose child’s name is down to start school or Nursery the following September will be invited to visit.
In Year Applications
Applications made outside the normal round (in-year admission) must be made directly to the school. If your child needs a place in another year group please contact the school directly.
We look forward to meeting you and welcoming you to our school.
